To mark Radio 1's Big Weekend arriving in Middlesbrough this weekend, the BBC have commissioned a special set of programmes celebrating the town. The 'We Are Middlesbrough' campaign played a visit to Dundas Indoor Market with a particular focus on young people who have set up their own business in the town.
Three budding businesses have been given the chance by Middlesbrough’s Dundas Market to showcase their products as part of a world-wide celebration of local markets. One of the aims of the Love Your Local Market (LYLM) campaign – which was launched in the UK in 2012, is now held in 24 countries and this year takes place between 17 and 31 May – is to provide people with the opportunity to test their ideas face-to-face with customers.
The search is on for young Teessiders, with a great idea and an eye for business, who want to take part in a national contest. On 15 June Middlesbrough’s Dundas Shopping Centre and Indoor Market is holding a Young Traders Market, with the best businesses put through to a regional heat to compete for a place in the national final – where big prizes are on offer.
